Exhibit inspired by gardening

Artwork by PeterTwo Newcastle events have displayed exhibits inspired by gardening and growing. Plotholder Peter Kellett has shown a stunning work at Newcastle Contemporary Arts Gallery - it's called "Keep Digging! Allotment Archaeology" and is pictured here. The work draws on a collection of old tools that were used on the allotment and gathered over several years. The theme encourages reflection on the labour involved and the significance of time in growing food and for food security.

And the new Farrell Centre (near the Civic Centre) fills two rooms with a large table mainly covered with plants and  remarkable experiment of mycelium grown on wool, sawdust and paper waste. The aim is to stimulate innovative thinking about greater creativity to draw on natural products and reduce harm to the environment through unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions.  News coverage of the opening of the centre can be seen here, and this is the official website with info on how to get to the centre and its latest exhibitions.
