Stotes Hall Allotment Gardens has about 40 plots, sloping down to Jesmond Dene. They were re-established nearly 50 years ago, and have a "working with nature" approach that promotes natural gardening without structures (such as greenhouses). As a result, wildlife flourishes, and space is allocated to maintain areas for biodiversity alongside the gardening plots. You can read about the site's fascinating history here.
If newcomers would like to get involved as a plotholder or through volunteering to provide support, check here for details. The allotment is managed by an elected committee, which works with plotholders to maintain the site. Special arrangement have been made for waste removal, such as pernicious weeds, and rules apply for bonfires (as they do on all allotments). Full details are available in the documents and guidance leaflets in the Resources section.
Suggestions for improvements are welcomed by committee members, either in the lead-up to the Annual General Meeting in the autumn, or around the year. As ever, chat with current committee members at the allotment, or get in touch using whichever way is most convenient for you.
